MYKHAILO GONCHAR

An author of numerous publications on security issues (including energy) and international relations, which have been published in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, the UK, Turkey, the Netherlands, Finland etc., Mykhailo takes active role in advising the governmental structures of Ukraine on various security issues.

Being a respectable member of the think-tank community, Mykhailo has his own practical experience of working within the governmental structures of Ukraine. In 1990ies he worked at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and in 2000ies held senior executive positions in oil and gas sector of Ukraine.

As an expert on economic security was a member of the Ukrainian part of Inter-Governmental Commissions of Economic Cooperation with Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Researcher at the National Institute of Strategic Studies of Ukraine and the National Institute of International Security Studies (under the auspices of the National Security Council of Ukraine), he also received training under the EU and NATO programs.

From 2007 Mykhailo devoted himself to work for non-governmental sector with the possibility to continue advising Ukrainian decision-makers on strategy and tactics in security field. In 2007-2009 Mykhailo was a head of energy programs of the analytical center “NOMOS”. In 2009 he founded and chaired The Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI”, which he is heading and managing today.

An associate expert with the Razumkov Center (Ukraine) and the Center on Russian Studies, as well as the Editor-in-Chief of the “Black Sea Security” journal.

Since 2016 Mykhailo is a member of the State Committee on Industrial Policy.

For his activities and contribution into strategic programs of Ukraine was distinguished by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (the Ukrainian parliament) and SC “Naftogas”.

He has an university degree from the Kyiv Institute of Civil Aviation.
